Sawtelle defends her management background

Patti Brennan Sawtelle, a candidate for town clerk, submitted this letter to the editor.

Patti Brennan Sawtelle, clerk candidate, 2020Sawtelle

Recently, ACMi interviewed the three town clerk candidates, asking them to explain why they are best qualified to be the next town clerk. I was grateful for the opportunity to again highlight my qualifications and vision for the town clerk’s office that will benefit the residents of Arlington. See the debate here >>

However, I am compelled to address inaccurate statements made by one of my opponents. Specifically, Juli Brazile publicly called into question my management experience and further stated there was little difference in our résumés. To correct any questions that may have arisen because of her comments, I offer the following résumé highlights regarding my 25-plus years of management, technology, municipal, operations and finance experience.

As a project manager for the Town of Arlington, I have:

  • Managed the conversion of several revenue collection systems with new technology, new equipment, and more efficient business practices where hundreds of millions of dollars were at stake;
  • Implemented an online payment solution for donations and payments for Health and Human Services;
  • Managed the specification and implementation of the first electronic medical record software for Arlington Youth Counseling Center (AYCC);
  • Managed the town’s vaccination programs from community outreach through design of clinic flow of people and equipment entering/exiting various site locations;
  • Managed the implementation of a document storage solution to digitize important financial and payroll related documents;
  • Managed facilities and construction projects for several of the town’s buildings; and
  • Managed operating budgets and developed capital requests for software programs and facilities and construction projects.

Prior to my employment with the Town of Arlington, I previously held management positions for more than 15 years, including as a manager of marketing and a regional sales manager, where I managed teams of professional staff, million-dollar budgets, and large complex programs. More information regarding my professional resume is available at or

I do not mean to be unkind or unappreciative of Juli’s volunteer efforts in town, but there is a stark difference between her volunteer efforts and my professional work experience.

I am running for town clerk because I truly have a passion for municipal government, technology, and customer service.  It’s clear we need change in the town clerk’s office and I am the most qualified candidate to lead this change.  I would be honored to be your next town clerk.
