YA booth draws 6 quiz winners, local-news interest

Town Day logo

What's a few showers on Town Day? In 1994, pouring rain caused no postponement of the town celebration held since 1976 -- and never put off. This Sept. 23 was cool and gray, and later showery, and yet the public came.

YourArlington staff and board members welcomed you to its booth, where you:

  • Took a quiz related to town news;
  • Met Editor Judith Pfeffer and Brynn O'Connor, assistant to the editor; and
  • Learned about the Nov. 15 fund-raiser to support YA's mission -- keeping democracy alive by informing residents with essential, local news.

About the quiz. Last year, no one answered any of the five questions successfully, though five gift certificates were awarded after a random drawing, so we asked them again this year. Fortunately, except for one gray area, the questions still applied.

This year, six got all five right. It appears that folks have been paying more attention to the news content of YourArlington over the past year.

Our display promised five gift certificates. With six winners, we have bought an extra $25 certificate to Noodle Market.

The news-savvy residents are Mark DeCew, Susan Born, Jeremy Cook, Anna Vakoc, Sharon Lipton and Ron Alex. Your certificate will be in the mail once we know your address.

A number of you came close, and we admit that the overnight-parking query could be viewed as a "trick," because of the current pilot program. For details about the pilot, approved in June, see details here >>

In all, 48 people took the quiz.

In addition, 35 people signed up for the Wednesday newsletter -- which anyone can do. Like all of YA's news, it's free. Fill out the form on page one below the main news at www.yourarlington.com.
