Survey ends: Help reimagine bus network

The MBTA wanted to hear from the public about travel patterns and destinations as part of its project to redesign its bus network.

MBTA bus imageThe survey is available here, and will be open through Saturday, July 31.

The MBTA says it is embarking on this project aiming to reshape the bus network to make it simpler to understand, create a more equitable network, make transit a competitive alternative to driving and maximize access to opportunities.

The MBTA intends to engage with municipalities and residents over the summer, develop a draft network redesign proposal for review in fall/winter 2021-2022, and have a final network map presented for approval next spring.

The redesign builds on recent efforts to revise the bus system and improve transit service, including route changes that occurred in fall/winter 2019, early morning and late-night bus service pilots in 2018-2019, bus stop accessibility improvements, and bus transit priority.

The Town of Arlington has participated in this effort most notably with the Bus Rapid Transit Pilot that was tested in fall 2018 and made permanent on Mass. Ave. in East Arlington in fall 2019.
