Town Meeting application deadline passes

Equitable Arlington, a group of town residents who focus on the importance of equitable housing and land-use policies, provides the following plea to the public.

Equitable Arlington logo

Please join many Equitable Arlington members and become a part of Arlington's Town Meeting -- the legislative body that votes on any changes to Arlington's laws. Town Meeting members enacted the many pro-housing changes in zoning in recent years, such as the MBTA Communities Act which ,was passed last session. If you become a member, you can help support these changes.

Town Meeting is very important: We can debate housing all we want, but Town Meeting is the way real change gets made in Arlington on housing policy and zoning.

How to run

To run for election this session, you have until Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 5 p.m. to go to the town clerk at Town Hall and get your nomination papers.

Someone else can "pull" papers on your behalf with a signed note.

You then have to get signatures from 10 registered voters in your precinct and return the nomination paper by Friday, Feb. 16, at noon.

This is very easy. It can be done by walking around your neighborhood. Make sure to get a few extra in case a couple of your signatures are disqualified.

Precinct 19 - At least 2 more candidates
Precinct 20 - At least 1 more candidate
