Town GOP recognizes Armenian Genocide

Donnarose Russian, chair of the Arlington Republican Town Committee, reports that the committee has adopted a resolution and proclamation recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

WHEREAS the Armenian Genocide was a deliberate systematic campaign of extermination perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey against its indigenous Armenian minority population, beginning on April 24, 1915, and continuing for years onward, resulting in the deaths of over 1.5 million Armenians, along with countless others subjected to displacement, starvation, and brutalization; and

WHEREAS the events of the Armenian Genocide have been widely documented by historians, scholars and eyewitness accounts, acknowledging the deliberate and organized nature of the atrocities committed against the Armenian People; and

Endorsements pile up for Governor's Council challenger

UPDATED April 16: Seven state officials, including Sen. Cindy Friedman (D-Arlington), and one Harvard legal scholar, have endorsed Mara Dolan, who is challenging incumbent Marilyn Petitto Devaney for a seat on the Governor's Council.  Mara Dolan            Mara Dolan

Devaney, who has held the seat since 1999, has not responded to requests for comment dating from February and provide list of endorsements.

Endorsements supporting Dolan, a Concord resident, include Lawrence Tribe, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor of Constitutional Law Emeritus at Harvard; state Auditor Diana DiZoglio; Rep. Richard M. Haggerty (D-Woburn), Rep. Michelle L. Ciccolo (D-Lexington, Rep. John J. Lawn Jr. (D-Watertown), Sen. James B. Eldridge (D-Marlborough); Rep. Dave Rogers (D-Arlington, etc.) and Friedman.
