After being nominated by Abode Energy Management, the Arlington-based Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) is the newest member of 1% for the Planet. This international program encourages business to give at least 1% of their annual sales to approved nonprofits.

Abode Energy Management—an Arlington-based business works throughout Massachusetts to improve the energy efficiency of homes as part of the Mass Save Program.

Working through the network of Home Performance Contractors in the Mass Save Program, Abode is focused on reducing residential energy consumption.

“We are excited to donate 1% of our annual revenue to vetted nonprofits working to improve and preserve our environment. We are focused on giving to local, smaller nonprofits where our dollars will be invested in the environments we interact with daily,” said Dave Boettcher, Abode Energy Management founder and CEO in an April 16 news release.

“We are proud to partner with MyRWA as our first nominee for 1% for the Planet. We appreciate their science-based approach to protecting and improving the vital environment in which we live, work and play. It is crucial to have advocates like MyRWA fighting to keep Greater Boston healthy and habitable as we all adapt to the changing climate.”

Abode is one of the 1,200 1% for the Planet business members and growing in 40 countries.

The MyRWA works every day to improve our local river and surrounding parks and paths for the benefit of our 21 community watershed. Work includes a robust water-quality program, which documents water quality, eliminates pollution sources and helps restore our natural habitat.

It includes the Resilient Mystic Collaborative, which partners with municipalities to build climate resiliency, and the Mystic Greenways Initiative, which is working toward a vision of 25 miles of connected paths from the Mystic Lakes to Boston Harbor. Within all these efforts we work to inspire and educate area youth and community members—last year directly engaging 2,000 plus individuals.

“We are excited to work with Abode Energy Management in the coming months and appreciate their commitment to protecting and restoring our planet, as well as their generous financial donation,” said Patrick Herron, Executive Director, Mystic River Watershed Association. “With business partners like Abode, great municipal and agency partners, and engaged community members the future of the Mystic River and it parks and paths is bright.”
